Service Information (SI) the basic overhead in a multiplex transmission which tells the receiver/decoder what services are available to it and how to tune to them.

DVB-SI Test Suite

DTG Testing Ltd. has produced a comprehensive test suite for the UK DTT system.

This new test suite allows manufacturers and developers of digital television receivers and set-top boxes to confirm the conformance of their products against the requirements of the UK DTT specification, the D-Book. The tests are designed to invoke all of the SI/PSI stimuli that a service provider may reasonably expect to broadcast on a network. Wherever possible, the tests have been extended to include robustness tests which exceed the UK (and DVB) requirements in an attempt to produce more tolerant receivers.

Conditional Access (CA) systems and Audio Description (ARD) are not included in this release. Included are:

  • PAT - Programme Association Table (7 test conditions)
  • PMT - Programme Map Table (27 test conditions)
  • TOT - Time Offset Table (7 test conditions)
  • TDT - Time and Date Table (included in test stream but no specific tests due to limited options available)
  • NIT - Network Information Table (46 test conditions)
  • SDT - Service Description Table (75 test conditions)
  • EIT - Event Information Table (89 test conditions)
  • Miscellaneous - software download and time exclusive services

The test suite is in the form of transport streams delivered on CD-ROMs. Each stream contains several test conditions, and tests are typically performed with a looping type play-out from a stream player.

Included are tests requiring static streams, temporal streams and a few multiple streams which require simultaneous delivery of two streams on different frequencies.
