Blinkx expands search service in Europe

Online video search specialist Blinkx has announced the expansion of its service into Western Europe. Blinkx said it was responding to the "rapid proliferation of multimedia web content" by launching search capabilities in French, German and Spanish.

Blinkx' search method uses speech-to-text transcription and visual recognition technology to deliver what it says are "results that are more accurate and reliable than standard metadata-based keyword searches".

"Because this core technology is language independent, Blinkx is able to understand video content, word-for-word, in any language, giving users the broadest and most accurate scope of search results on the web," said Blinkx.

Blinkx currently indexes content from over 200 European sources and sites, making more than 1m hours of foreign language video content fully searchable.
