Britain's youngest commercial network broadcaster, Five, is mulling plans for a digital television channel for children.
The channel has asked head of children's programming Nick Wilson to investigate the feasibility of the proposed channel, that could build on its established Milkshake programming brand.
The move comes as Five continues to consider its future as a stand-alone channel. The RTL Group majority-owned channel recently abandoned merger talks with Channel 4 which could have seen it become part of a larger family of digital channels.
Five chief executive Jane Lighting recently sought to dismiss speculation of a Five tie-up with Flextech. She told Broadcast magazine it was "absolutely not correct to say we are deep in conversation with Flextech".
