European satellite operator SES Astra has signed a new long-term contract with French pay-TV operator Canal+ to transmit its French channel line-up. Canal+ recently merged its pay-TV operations in France with that of TPS.
Astra said Canal+ would take several additional transponders in a deal—financial terms were not disclosed—that allows the pay-TV operator to broadcast its full high-definition offering as well as provide further room for the growth of standard-definition services.
"With this contract, we significantly enhance our position in the French market and further strengthen our relationship with Canal+ as one of our most important European customers," said Astra CEO Ferdinand Kayser.
"SES Astra and Canal+ have developed a strong partnership over the past ten years, and we look forward to continuing to provide satellite services of the highest quality and reliability to the merged bouquet."
