Sky launches real-time betting

BSkyB yesterday launched 'WINPlay' on its SkyBet service, billed as a "real-time, play-by-play betting system".

The technology comes courtesy of a one-year trial agreement between BSkyB and Interactive Systems Worldwide (ISWI), and its subsidiary Global Interactive Gaming (GIG).

The wagering software is available to BSkyB's 7.6m UK and Irish households and will enable punters to bet interactively on a range of sports, including football, cricket, rugby, tennis and snooker.

ISWI chairman Barry Mindes said: "WINPlay will allow millions of BSkyB's satellite subscribers the opportunity to wager play-by-play on their favorite sporting events in real-time. SkyBet has been tremendously successful and a pioneer in the iTV betting market. This product will set a new standard for interactive gaming."
