YouView, the new set top-box venture backed by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Arqiva, BT and TalkTalk, was officially launched today by Chairman Lord Sugar and CEO Richard Halton.
YouView will provide digital TV and radio channels, seven day catch-up and on demand programmes from the content libraries of the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. Content from STV and Sky's internet TV service Now TV will also be available on the platform.
YouView features includes a backwards EPG, on-demand search function and the ability to record, pause and rewind live TV.
YouView boxes will be available from retailers including John Lewis, Currys, Comet, Argos and Amazon from late July. Partners BT and TalkTalk will offer YouView as part of a phone and broadband package, with additional content and services available to customers accessing YouView via their broadband networks.
Lord Sugar, Chairman of YouView said: "It's with great pleasure that we announce that YouView will be available from major retailers later this month. Our intention with this simple-to-use box is to provide extraordinary TV for everyone, with on-demand services combined with TV channels with an opportunity to search back an entire week to catch what they've missed. It's a whole new way of experiencing TV."
