Babelgum launches online movie festival

Babelgum, the broadband video aggregator, is offering a ?20,000 prize to filmmakers submitting short films for Babelgum's online movie festival.

US director Spike Lee will be the honorary judge of the competition while Babelgum users will also play a role in selecting award finalists in each of the six competitive categories. Each category is offering a ?20,000 prize.

"Now more than ever before, independent filmmakers need every bit of help to showcase their work. The Babelgum Online Film Festival will accomplish this by combining the value of a film festival with the openness and global reach of the internet for those seeking to showcase their work and advance their film careers," said Lee.

Movies up to 45 minutes in duration need to be uploaded to Babelgum.com before February 15, 2008. Movies will then be displayed and rated.
