Plans by the French government to end analogue television broadcasts in November 2011 have been approved by lawmakers.
Under the government's Télévision Du Futur policy framework, switchover will start in a region-by-region basis in March 2008.
The French digital terrestrial service TNT (Télévision Numérique Terrestre) will need to be available to 95% of the population at switchover, with the remaining 5% reached by free satellite services due to launch this summer.
Under the new laws all new TV sets sold from March 2008 must have an integrated TNT receiver.
