US interactive technology provider OpenTV has moved to boost its offering by signing a multi-year licence agreement with Time Warner Cable.
Under the deal the cable operator will provide its digital navigator to enhance existing programme guides on OpenTV's OCAP platform, facilitate cross-platform integrated services, and market new products relating to Time Warner's Motorola set-top boxes.
In return, OpenTV's Core 2.0 software and related interactive television services will be available for Time Warner Cable's use.
This licensing agreement represents the first US cable deployment of OpenTV's advanced digital solutions and applications. The initial launch is expected late this year on Time Warner Cable's Motorola set-top boxes, ranging from the DCT-2000 to the more full-featured Motorola set-top boxes.
OpenTV CEO James A. Chiddix said: "This deal marks a historic milestone for [us] and the culmination of many years of work.
"Gaining a strong foothold in the US cable market has long been a goal of OpenTV, and with an anchor customer like Time Warner Cable we now have a firm foundation from which to continue extending and enhancing our solutions and services as digital television moves ahead in the market."
