Brendan Slamin

Brendan Slamin's BBC career included the positions of General Manager Television Outside Broadcasts Operations, Chief Engineer for the BBC Regions and Project Director for the Host Broadcast operation at the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games.

He brought his wide experience of operational programme making to the new world of High Definition Research as co-ordinator of the BBC HD Research activities in the pan-European Eureka 95 HD project. He chaired two project groups in this project and commissioned the first European HD programmes from a wide range of sources throughout Europe. He was awarded the Judges Award of the Royal Television Society for this work.

On leaving the BBC, he was asked to co-ordinate the work of the UK Widescreen Forum to facilitate the introduction of widescreen TV in the UK. This body has now become part of the larger Digital TV Group and has changed its remit to become the UK High Definition Forum. It comprises broadcasters and manufactures and its aim is to secure the successful introduction of HD in the UK. He also serves on the EBU HD Forum for Europe.

He is the author of "High Definition for Programme Makers" published by the BBC and is the editor of "High Definition TV: The Essential Guide for TV Professionals" published by the Digital TV Group. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the IEE and a Fellow of the Royal Television Society.
