Simon Gauntlett - Technology Director

Simon Gauntlett

In his role as Technology Director of the DTG, Simon is responsible for setting the organisation's strategic technical vision, supporting DTG Technical Council, Chairing DTG Testing's Advisory Board, directing the group's technical programme and managing the DTG's technology team.

Since joining the DTG in 2006, Simon has edited and published two updated versions of the D-Book - the technical specification for digital terrestrial television in the UK, and has established working groups for the current HD D-Book and more recently connected TV. In early 2008 he supported the launch of the UK's free-to-air satellite platform, Freesat, with a test and conformance project, and in 2009 worked with the Group's membership to facilitate the introduction of HD on the DTT platform using the new DVB-T2 standard.

Following the DTG’s consultation on the on the technological feasibility and viability of 3DTV in March 2009, Simon is now leading the Group’s involvement in profiling a UK standard for 3DTV.

Prior to working for the DTG, Simon spent seven years at the BBC's Research and Development (R&D) department, where he specialised in compression technologies for High Definition video and the delivery of HDTV, working on the BBC's HD trial on the satellite, cable and terrestrial platforms.
